Problem solved in Gateshead!

Gateshead Council have, through Rickerby’s of Hexam, recently taken delivery of two Reform Metrac H4 bank Mowers which Alasdair Tose, Transport Service Manager for the authority, describes as ‘the best fit for our particular needs.”

Andrew Black of Rickerby’s, who worked with Alasdair on the agreement, said “Gateshead Council have, like a lot of authorities, in the light of increasing health & safety concerns where bank grass maintenance is concerned, undertaken a review of their groundcare machinery fleet to ensure it is fit for purpose. They came to the conclusion that the tractors they had been using were not only unsuitable but also potentially unsafe for the operator when working on slopes in excess of 15 degrees. The Metrac H4 with Muthing flail has solved that problem.”

Alasdair Tose added “as a council we are very aware of the potential associated hazards for our staff working on steep grass banks and river banks. We have had an unfortunate experience in the past but fortunately no serious injury resulted. We have a number of machines which we have found to be unsuitable at over 15 degrees and we have also tried and possess a remote mower which fell well short of expectations.

We chose the Reform Metrac H4’s as they have been demonstrated to give the best results and safest operational environment and also, outside the cutting season, they give us the addition of two superb utility vehicles to our fleet. The front and rear PTO and front & rear linkage was a real attraction for us and means we can use the H4’s for a multitude of attachments and work tasks. Hydrostatic drive means more precise control on slopes and less surface damage for more sensitive areas. The switch able front, rear or crab steer modes allied to the wide wheel base and light footprint means we are working at maximum stability and efficiency.”
