Preston City Council take delivery of a Reform Bank Tractor

Preston City Council is the latest UK local authority to take delivery of a Reform Bank Tractor. This time the model in question is a Metrac Hydrostatic H4, supplied through local dealer Sharrocks, which will be working in tandem with a Muthing MU-H 2 metre Flail Mower across the councils remit on a wide range of grounds maintenance tasks.

Brian Proctor, Parks Operations Manager for the council elaborates on the thinking behind the acquisition saying “our grass cutting responsibilities include a huge range of differing tasks including maintenance of a recently acquired ninety acre area of community land previously maintained by English Partnerships, which has a variety of terrain from steeply banked areas to meadowland. We also work on a huge volume of road side verge areas and embankments as well as parks and community sports surfaces. We chose the Reform and Muthing combination specifically as a unit as the Metrac H4 Tractor gives us tremendous year round working versatility from, with operator health and safety in mind, the cutting of steep slopes, to football pitch maintenance and fertiliser application while the Muthing flail rewards us with excellent cut quality even when grass is longer and wet.

We chose the Reform Metrac H4 as we felt it will give us the best results and safest operational environment and also, outside the cutting season, will give us the addition of a superb utility vehicle to our fleet. The front and rear PTO and front & rear linkage was a real attraction for us and means we can use the H4 for a multitude of attachments and work tasks. Hydrostatic drive means more precise control on slopes and less surface damage for more sensitive areas. The switch able front, rear or crab steer modes allied to the wide wheel base and light footprint means we are working at maximum stability and efficiency”
